Dodgers rally on Vivian's bomb, win on Rikli's walk-off

Things were looking dim for the Dodgeville baseball team when Platteville took a 6-2 lead after their turn at bat in the fifth but Anthony Vivian eventually changed that.
After scoring a run in the fifth to cut the lead in half, Vivian stepped to the plate with RJ Veinberg and JJ Thompson on base. Vivian took a 2-0 fastball and drove it over the left centerfield wall to knot the two SWC teams at 6-6.
The battle was on and it lasted until the bottom of the ninth when Brandon Molldrem walked to open the frame and gave way to pinch runner Drew Latterell. Will Borne-Mumm dropped a single into centerfield and Josh Gorgen was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Enter Colton Rikli who spent the first half of the game as the designated hitter then caught Vivian who came on in relief in the fifth and stayed on to earn the win. Rikli liked the first pitch he saw and he lined it to left, scoring Latterell with the winning run.
The win moves the Dodgers to 9-7 on the season and 5-3 in the SWC. They have two conference games left, at Lancaster Friday and home with Richland Center Monday for Senior Night.
Molldrem started on the mound for the Dodgers and had some anxious moments in the first inning when the Hillmen scored three runs on three hits and an error. He then threw three shutout innings before a walk and two singles led to three more Platteville runs. Molldrem exited with seven strikeouts, one walk, eight hits surrendered along with six runs, four earned.
Vivian then came on an painted the corners with a good fastball. He spaced two hits, walked three and struck out nine in the final 4 2/3s.
Ayden Halverson singled with one out in the third, was balked to second then scored the first run for the Dodgers on a Vivian double. Molldrem then lined a single to score Vivian and cut the lead to 3-2.
After Platteville went up 6-3 in the fifth Vivian walked, advanced on a wild pitch, took third on Molldrem's single then scored on another wild pitch.
That was followed by the three run shot to tie the game and Rikli's walk off for the game winner.
The Dodgers unleashed 13 hits and had several with multiples. Halverson was 3x5, Vivian 3x4, Molldrem and Veinberg 2x4 and Borne-Mumm 2x5. Gorgen and Rikli rounded out the attack with one hit each.
Extra base hits included Vivian's home run and double and a double by Veinberg.
