Vote NO Mineral Point
As a mother of two small children who will be attending the Mineral Point Elementary School in the next few years, I am voting NO in the April 2019 referendum. I strongly believe that the current elementary school location, separate from the High School, is the best choice for my children, and for all our children. A protected, pure environment, separate from the High School would help maintain our wonderful "eMPathy" culture, and not overburden taxpayers, which will help us to maintain a healthy community beyond the schools.
Voting NO in the April referendum would also allow us to save money to take care of our teachers, instead of spending all we have in the facility itself. To improve conditions for teachers during the remodel, the entire school staff and community can work effectively to ensure minimal disruptions. There are many possible solutions available, including the hiring of temporary staff and volunteers. Teachers are one of the most important factors in our children's educational experience. Let's take care of them.
Voting NO, honors the November 2018 referendum, which already approved funding to address foundation issues, build a beautiful gymnasium, and create more effective work spaces. We will not be throwing good money after bad. This situation is completely different from the High School renovations in the 90's. In that case, the building was much older, and not able to support updated codes. Our current elementary school location can provide a beautiful, safe environment for our kids, consistent with best practices.
Voting NO, will not increase Mineral Point taxes unnecessarily and will allow for the entire community, from young couples to retirees, to be able to afford to live in our town. It takes a village to raise our children, and beyond the school setting, we are also responsible for maintaining a healthy community, with good housing options, well-maintained parks, interesting activities, long-lasting businesses, and a beautiful environment for our community.
