Shatrawka earns state beam title, Lemanski fifth in vault at Individual State D-2 gymnastics meet

River Valley/Barneveld's fab freshmen were able to showcase their talents at the WIAA Division 2 state tournament this last weekend and came away with one championship.
Lorisa Shatrawka, the Barneveld part of the co-op, came away with a state title on the beam. Her scored was 9.567.
The freshman also made it to the podium with a third place on the floor with a score of 9.4. Her all-around finish was podium worthy as she place third.
Shatrawka had a good outing on the bars finishing seventh and just missing the podium.
River Valley/Barneveld coach Alyssa Kuhse was proud of how the girls did at Individual State. She had this to say about the girls and their performances.
"Freshmen Sofia Sanftleben and Lorisa Shatrawka had the opportunity to compete at the WIAA State Gymnastics Meet. At individual state, you rotate and compete with the other qualifiers from your sectional. We are fortunate to be in a sectional that the girls are all close, care for and support each other. They truly come together as a unit. It really helps all the girls competing and to have the other teams coaches that are so supportive as well.
"We had a great rotation, vault, bars, beam and floor. Sofia Sanftleben had been working on her landings and had a stick vault breaking her personal season high with a score of 8.6. She couldn't have competed her vault any better than she did that day. I am proud of how well she presented her self and her performance at the state level. Lorisa came in with some nerves for vault but you couldn't tell by her performance. She had a very high and fast rotation with only a small step, scoring 9.167. It was great the girls could start the first rotation together.
"Going to bars, Lorisa had been working on connections and hitting handstands. She did not disappoint at the state meet. She just missed the podium with 7th place.
"Moving to beam Lorisa was up first, her favorite spot on the line up. She made all of her connections and had a fluid routine. She scored her season high with a 9.567 making her the Division 2 beam Champion. She was just on. Every connection, landing, and skill was spot on.
"Floor has been a consistent and exciting event to watch. Lorisa stuck each tumbling pass. She scored a 9.4 coming in at third place. She also made it to the podium on All- Around, placing third.
"Both girls hit season highs and to do that at the state level is pretty remarkable. Lorisa had an unbelievable meet, her best meet of the season. Lorisa has so much fun in the gym and it definitely shows when she competes. Her good attitude and excitement is very contagious. River Valley/Barneveld is lucky to have such great competitors as well as very supportive teammates. I will be looking forward to next season with the gymnasts and expanding on what we built this year."
"I'm really happy," said Shatrawka after the meet, whose all-around total also was a personal high. "I just didn't expect it, to do this well."
"I had my team supporting me, which is really nice. I was just pumped up. I was ready to go. I just wanted to have fun," Shatrawka said.
Dodgeville-Mineral Point had a gymnast reach the podium Saturday when junior Miah Lemanski finished fifth in the vault with a 9.300. Miah competed in all the events the day before when the D/MP squad competed in Team State and finished seventh in Division 2.
It was also a special treat to see Miah on the cover of this year's state program.
D/MP coach Julia Oellerich was happy with how Miah, Tessa Bockhop and Elle Honerbaum competed in the individual portion.
"Saturdays individual gymnasts came out strong. Miah Lemanski's 9.3 vault in the second round stood throughout the day to place fifth. Tessa Bockhop nearly reached the podium on uneven bars with a solid performance placing ninth. Elle Honerbaum topped her personal best on the balance beam from the day before with a season high 8.933," Oellerich said.
All three girls are juniors and have been to state the past three years.
