Dodgeville/Mineral Point team seventh at WIAA Division 2 state gymnastics meet

Dodgeville/Mineral Point's entrant in the WIAA Division 2 state gymnastics meet finished seventh among the 10 teams competing for the state title.
The Dodgeville/Mineral Point team scored 133.7500. This was the fourth consecutive year the Dodgeville/Mineral Point team has qualified for the state meet and the 7th place ties its previous best finish. The 2016 team finished 10th, the 2017 team 7th and the 2018 team 8th.
Whitefish Bay set a new state record in taking the D-2 title with a score of 145.2000.
Mount Horeb was the second place finisher with a score of 141.0833.
Dodgeville/Mineral Point also had Miah Lemanski, Tessa Bockhop and Elle Honerbaum compete Saturday in the individual state portion of the meet.
Dodgeville/Mineral Point coach Julia Ollerich had this to say about the team and individual performances.
"Friday's Team State Invitational turned out to be one of our best team efforts of the year. That is spectacular considering the pressure these girls were under. Several personal bests were broken by Elle Honerbaum on beam and Lily McDonald on bars along with solid performances from Miah Lemanski, Tessa Bockhop, Emma Steffes, Emma Berg and Katlyn Yingst. The team came together and had fun. There was a lot of competition throughout the state and we were happy with our 7th place finish."
"Saturdays individual gymnasts came out strong. Miah Lemanski's 9.3 vault in the second round stood throughout the day to place 5th. Tessa Bockhop nearly reached the podium on uneven bars with a solid performance placing 9th. Elle Honerbaum topped her personal best on the balance beam from the day before with a season high 8.933."
"We coaches are extremely proud of our gymnasts for their efforts throughout the year. They worked hard throughout the season to improve their skills, which was proven at the state meet."
"We have another strong year ahead of us but we lose a few valuable gymnasts who have competed on varsity and have shown strong leadership like Lily McDonald, Katlyn Yingst, and Jorah Jacobson."
The Dodge-Point Gymnastics Team would like to thank the communities of Dodgeville and Mineral Point for the support they have shown the gymnastics team, including the Dodgeville and Mineral Point School Districts, Fire Departments, and Police Departments for the amazing send off and return. But most of all, thank you to the parents. Without the support and dedication to your athletes, this program would not be where it is today!"
