It's hard to believe it's the end of February and we get a lot of rain! There are puddles - they turn to ice. There are snow piles - they turn to ice too. I don't remember a Wisconsin winter like this one. Until the middle of January you would've thought we were a state located a lot more southerly. Then it came! It's been horrendous with snow over the past month or so. Then you throw in rain! Sunday I thought we were in a total "wind tunnel." I'm not a fan of wind no matter what time of the year it comes, but in the winter it's the worst. You could hear the wind howling outside of any window and when you were outside .... well it wasn't fun at all. The gusts took doors right out of your hand and blew them open wide. I chased my hat at least five times - once it landed in a pool of water and had to be dried. People were not saying nice things as they were walking to their vehicles. It just wasn't a fun day!

Saturday morning Bob Kratochwill and I met Dave Stone at Pleasant Ridge Store for breakfast. It was raining and pretty icy outside, so I called to make sure they were open. Charlie Rolli, the owner, was there and said the staff was coming about 9:00. We had already made plans to meet Dave there around 8:00, so we went out there right away. The parking lot was like an ice skating rink. Bob had some special diggers attached to his shoes, so he helped me inside. Dave came about 15 minutes later and Charlie had already put coffee on, so we were set. Four other people braved the conditions and had shown up before we left around 9:15. The breakfast was worth the "skate" to get in!

Saturday was the benefit for Kathy Honerbaum and Erin (Honerbaum) Jacobson at Dodger Bowl. The place was packed from the start until around 8:00 as some people wanted to watch the Badgers game! I'm sure the amount of money raised showed how much those two people mean to our community. The committee had a goal of $10,000, but I'm sure that was multiplied several times.

By the way, Kathy is the sister of "my late buddy" Mike Crubaugh of Quality Bakery fame! She always wants me to brag to that she was my lab partner in chemistry class when we were in high school!

I was the date of Sarah (Fry) Alsakar for the event, but she outlasted me as she was still bowling when I left! Sarah is a special young lady who is like a daughter to me! She made the trip from Waunakee - she is a classmate of Erin.

While I'm writing this on Sunday, there have been three slide-offs on highways and county roads.

This seems to come earlier every year, but Daylight Savings Time begins on Sunday, March 10. That's just a couple of weeks away. Also, Ash Wednesday is March 6 - that's the beginning of Lent and means that Easter is six weeks away.

The Dodgeville Area Chamber of Commerce held its annual banquet last week. Above is a photo of the entertainment - the acting out of a "Murder Mystery!"
