Lesson learned

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Watching the Betty Hayes School of Dance 72nd performance this past weekend taught me something I feel is worth learning.
The recital comes complete not only with great dancing but with great costumes. Several of the numbers, the costumes included caps, hats or scarfs.
Three times during the 3 hour 45 minutes, a hat or scarf came off during the number. In every instance those items were part of the act.
But did the dancers stop to pick up those items?
Not once. The act continued to completion with the dancers acting like nothing happened. That's show business, I guess.
So what did that teach me?
When things take an unexpected turn, just keep on dancing and like the dancers did, keep on smiling.
That is what people who make the most out of a mishap do. And they did it well.
I was at the recital to watch my very talented granddaughter perform her passion. I came away loving what she did and learning something. I will remember for the rest of my life.
Keep on dancing.
