Something to do for sure

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

For those whose favorite line is, "there is nothing to do in Dodgeville," this week and next will prove that wrong.
This weekend is the annual fireworks and Farmers Appreciation Day, then next week is the first annual Pop Up Town Square.
And for you sports fans the 11 and 12 year old Cal Ripken state tournaments will be at Harris Park through Saturday and a 14U girls softball tournament will be held at Wilson Park Saturday and Sunday.
The Farmers Appreciation Day will follow the same format as always with a huge parade at 11 a.m. Sunday and events at Harris Park in the afternoon. There will be food and festivities including a petting zoo, pedal pulls, kids activities and a live auction.
You can also enjoy a part of the UW marching band at 1 p.m. when "Echoes of Camp Randall" play for your entertainment.
A new twist has been added for Saturday with the Uplands Hills Health Sip and Savor event. It is billed as a "taste of southwest Wisconsin" and will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be live music by Shekinah King and Alpha Romeos.
Fireworks will follow at Dusk.
The Pop Up Town Square will give people something to do the entire next week. Feel free to grab coffee, breakfast, lunch...whatever and come to the comfortable setting the event will provide. There will be live music each day with the idea to provide a community gathering place for local activities.
So we have both the old and the new. Give the new a chance. There is little if any cost and you might find something you like.
After all, a little fun never hurts, does it?
