Dodger girls fall to Hornets at the end

Dodgeville's girls basketball team held the lead for 33 minutes and 38 seconds of the game, but unfortunately the game goes to 36 minutes.
At the 2:22 mark of the second half, Richland Center took its first lead of the game and went on for a 51-48 SWC win Thursday night at Dodgeville.
The Dodgers jumped to a 20-5 lead at the start of the game and held a 26-16 lead at the half.
That's when the Lady Hornets' senior twin towers, Jenna Thomas (5'11") and Kayla Monson (6'1") took over. Thomas hit 13 of her 15 points in the second half and Monson had 10 of her 12. Also, freshman KJ Louis put in 10 of her 15 in that second frame.
The Dodgers regained the lead for a moment, but several offensive rebounds led to too many extra tries for RC with several possessions resulting in a put back and a free throw.
Richland Center, on a put back by Thomas, took a 49-48 lead with 3.8 seconds left.
Dodgeville coach Josh Busch put together a "home run" pass play to Olivia Argall that could've led to the win, but RC's Thomas, who is also a track star, intercepted the throw on her fingertips. That and the two free throws she made when she was immediately fouled all but stopped any hope of a Dodger win.
"Just a little bit longer pass and we had a chance at the win," Busch said following the game. "Olivia had a step or two on her. But it doesn't come down to that. The second half we didn't have the same defensive intensity we did in the first half. They (Center) had 14 offensive rebounds the second half.We limited them to seven in the first half."
"We had too many unforced turnovers in the second half, he added. "We're young and still learning. We just have to take that next step and hopefully we'll make some noise come tournament time."
Junior Amanda Ludwig and sophomore Olivia Argall led the Dodger offense with 10 points each. Junior Grace Borne, sophomore AJ Phillips and sophomore JoJo Heimerl each hit eight.
