The Dodgers hosted the Lancaster Flying Arrows in their dual conference match on Thursday January 10. Unfortunately they fell short with a final score of 64-15.
"We knew going in that Lancaster is going to be a tough team," Dodger head coach Ryan Lord said.
Injuries from Jacob Hlavac, Mason Mortimer, and Eli Reeson put forfeits in the scorebook for the Dodgers. Another forfeit came from Dodgeville's 195 pounder Joey Recob.
"I was kind of afraid that he wasn't going to be going, he had strained his back over the weekend," Lord said. "He came into practice on Monday walking funny so I knew it could be possible that there could be a possiblity of not having him."
In those situations Lord said, "It is what is. We just deal with it."
The match began with Riley Crook, Dodgeville's 152 pounder, bringing in a winning match by a fall of 1:51 against Lancaster's Collin Lull. Other Dodger wins came from 170 pounder Tyler Bell in his decision 5-2 winning match over Morgan Seippel, and heavy weight Louden Fuerstenberg with a fall of 0:33.
Despite the loss against Lancaster, Lord saw a sense of improvement in terms of the Dodger's aggressiveness on the mat.
"Overall compared to last week against River Valley," Lord said. "I was just happy to see the kids go out there and be aggressive. They definitely looked more aggressive tonight. The more on the attack they are, the less tired they are going to get. I think they're starting to realize that."
"I was definitely happy with our approach, so that was improvement," Lord added.
The Dodgers made their way to Belmont on Saturday for the Belmont Invitational, where they placed fifth out of 11 teams. They will face off with Belmont/Platteville tonight January 17 with first match starting at 7 p.m.
