Be kind in the New Year

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Many times as an old year ends, and a new year approaches, one may be scrambling to find a New Year's resolution. Whether it's to eat healthier, or whether it's to set financial goals there is always a chance to do things better.
It goes without saying, no one is perfect. We all make mistakes and it's up to us on how we respond to those mistakes. We have struggles and we also have successes. But one thing remains the same: a little kindness towards another always goes a long way.
There are many ways to be kind. Being kind can mean being a listening ear to someone who is having a hard time in a relationship. It can also mean donating time and volunteering in your community. It can also be a student offering the new student a place to sit at the lunch table.
My parents always told me growing up that it doesn't matter how much money you make, or the clothes you wear. All that matters is that you go to bed at the end of the night knowing you did something kind during the day.
I have always tried to be kind to people growing up, and I know that I may not be perfect, but I would rather be kind than anything else. That is my New Year's resolution.
Whatever your resolution may be, may you have a wonderful, kind, safe and prosperous New Year.
