Dodgers clear first tourney rung

After a slow start Tuesday night, the Dodgeville girls basketball team turned the light and handled visiting Turner 58-50 in first round action in Division 3 tournament play.
The Dodgers trailed 8-0, but tied it at 18 before Turner went on a 5-0 run to lead 23-18 at the half.
It wasn't until the 10:33 mark of the second half that the Dodgers tied the score at 31. It came on a three pointer from AJ Phillips from the wing.
A minute and a half later, Olivia Argall put them ahead and the lead changed hands a couple of times.
The Dodgers then took things over and led by 11 until a banked in three made the final margin eight.
Argall scored all of her 19 game-high points in the second half. She was in foul trouble in period one.
Phillips added 12 with JoJo Heimerl chipping in 11.
"We started playing the second half," said Dodger coach Josh Busch. "We weren't finishing around the rim in the first half and the first couple of possession in the second half. I thought we did a nice job the last 15 minutes of the game."
"AJ hit a big three to tie it and that seemed to open this up so we could attack the rim," he added. "Olivia was very strong around the rim. She attacks it well."
"Hopefully we can put together another game Friday night at Platteville," Busch concluded.
Turner hit six three pointers on the night and was led in scoring by sophomore Olivia Tinder with 19 points , 12 coming in the second half.
Senior Mara Fowler added 13.
