Dodger boys hold off Lancaster

With just a couple of games left before the WIAA Boys Basketball Tournament season begins, Dodgeville gained its third win of the season with a 61-57 win over visiting Lancaster Friday night in SWC action.
The Dodgers held a 29-22 lead at halftime and extended it to 11 several times in the second half and late in the game.
The Arrows hit a couple desperation threes and got some easy lay-ins down the stretch to make it closer at the end.
The Dodgers sealed the win from the free throw line hitting 22 of 27 on the night.
Down the stretch Noah Blalock hit five of six, Dillon Garthwaite one of two and Adam Phillips went 2x2.
"Free throws down the stretch were big for us with Noah, Adam and Dillon making 8 of 9," said Dodger coach Matt McGraw.
Blalock finished the night with a team-high 19 points. He made 8 of 10 from the line.
Phillips was 4x4 and finished with 13 points. He wasn't hitting his three pointers like usual, but stayed with it and nailed a huge one from long range late in the game.
Brandon Molldrem was the third Dodgers in double figures with 13. He put in seven of seven from the charity stripe.
"Brandon played about as strong a game as he's played all season, McGraw pointed out. "That's what we need out of him. His play was an integral part of us getting the lead."
The coach also praised the defense of Dylan McGraw. "He dogged Bowen all night long and kept him out of his comfort zone."
McGraw summed up the win saying, "We made a few mistakes, but when we did we came back and answered. That's something we haven't been doing. Another thing is having eight guys score - that's something we haven't had in a while either. I'm happy with the way these guys play. They never quit and are always working hard."
Lancaster was led in scoring by 6'3" sophomore Hayden Wagner with 20 points. He put in 13 of those in the second half and several down the stretch with rebounds or layups under the basket.
Another sophomore, Hayden Knapp, finished with 13 points while Bowen had 12, but only three field goals.
