It's Sunday and I keep hearing about a powerful snowstorm coming tonight and continuing throughout tomorrow (Monday) night. That is going to be followed by a "polar vortex", something I had to google to find out exactly what that meant. I knew it sounded like something very cold and not a lot of fun. Here's what Wikipedia says - "A polar vortex is an upper level low-pressure area lying near the Earth's poles. There are two polar vortices in the Earth's atmosphere, overlying the North and South Poles." All I know is that wind chills are supposed to surpass 65 degrees below zero during the week. After the snow there is supposed to be a lot of wind coming out of the north and there may not be any school until Friday of this week!

I just may have been sleeping at the Chronicle office all week just to make sure I got here!

Not too far down the line - Sunday, February 17 - will be the Dodgeville Lions Club's annual "Community Appreciation Breakfast" at the Dodger Bowl from 8:00 a.m. to noon. The event is in appreciation of all the support the community gives the Lions during the year. The cost is "zero" to the people attending, however any (and all) donations will be given to the Dodgeville Food Locker, which is headed by Lion Bob Allbright.

In the Dodgeville Lions Club's years of service, they have averaged giving over $12,000 per year back to the community!

The UW Badgers Women's Basketball team won a thriller Sunday against Nebraska at the Kohl Center 70-69 on a three point shot with about one second left. There were a lot of Barneveld fans there watching Hannah Whitish play for Nebraska. She is a junior there and was one of the best players to ever come out of Barneveld's girls basketball program. Hannah had 12 points from her point guard position.

Kara Crowley, a former Dodgeville High School girls basketball player until her senior year, is on the Badgers team, but didn't play. She is a sophomore, who finished her high school career on the Beaver Dam team, but she spent the lion's share of her life in Dodgeville. Kara had a billboard in her honor in Beaver Dam that promoted Sunday's game. Above is a shot of that billboard.
