Dodgers struggle scoring after defense does its job

Dodgeville's boys basketball team got the defensive stops they wanted against Wisconsin Heights when they were trying to erase a 47-16 halftime deficit but the offense refused to follow suit.
Without any scoring on eight straight stops the Dodgers were forced to settle for a 61-47 decision with the Vanguards in a non-conference game.
The Dodger wasted little time mounting a comeback from the 21 points they were down at halftime and quickly cut the lead to 12 after intermission.
Then came the eight empty trips down the floor.
"We couldn't convert on the offensive end even though we had good looks." coach Matt McGraw said. "It would have been a much different game if we could have converted on a couple of those offensive possessions."
McGraw said once the Dodgers adopted the philosophy they should slow the game down they played pretty well.
"I am happy with a lot of things we did in the second half and if we can build on that we have some good things ahead of us," said McGraw.
Dillon Garthwaite led Dodgeville with 10 points. The Vanguards got double figures from De'Shawn Barsness who tallied 19, Devin Brabender who hit 17 and Cole Cribbs who added 13.
Garthwaite pulled down seven rebounds for the Dodgers and Jacob Buchanan grabbed five. Peyton Tranel dished out five assists.
