Pointers battle Cubans in rugged SWAL match-up

Facing Cuba City is a daunting enough task but doing it without your top player can be brutal.
The Pointers were without Division1 recruit Isaac Lindsey who is recovering from an injury and the decision was made to hold him out of Friday's SWAL boys basketball match-up.
The meeting between the two teams already had a rivalry built into it as both are considered to be contenders. Add in the fact that former Pointer Brayden Dailey is now a Cuban made it more of a rivalry.
It was a rough game with the Pointers being assessed 33 fouls and a pair of technicals. It was played before a packed gymnasium to see who would gain an early upper hand in the SWAL race.
When it was over the Cubans took home a comfortable 71-55 win. The difference in points was way more comfortable than the action on the court as the Pointers did all they could to stay with the Cubans. Much of their success was the 11 three pointers they made to attempt to stay close.
Dailey led the Cubans with 21 points and recent 1000 point scorer Brady Olson added 18.  Jackson Noll also got into double figures for the Cubans with 16.
The Pointers were led by Liam Stumpf who put in 14 and Blaise Watters who added 11.
Mineral Point coach Dan Burreson felt the Pointers did what they could to battle the Cubans.
"I thought we competed and battled hard, but it was not enough tonight," said Burreson. " We are still trying to figure some things out."
Burreson said Liam Stumpf and Blaise Watters shot well and that Grant Bossert gave the Pointers a spark off the bench.
"Dominik McVay did a nice job in his first varsity game," Burreson added. "Gabe Sporle and Blaise did nice jobs defensively. Gabe led us in rebounding with eight and Joah Filardo and Justin Baehler each had six rebounds."
