Eagles put up good fight against Black Hawk

It is no secret throughout SW Wisconsin or even the entire state for that matter that the Black Hawk girls basketball team is in an elite class.
So. when Barneveld put up 41 points against the Lady Warriors it was a pretty darn good outing
"I liked our energy and effort," said Eagles coach Chris Thousand. "We competed and did not back down."
The game plan for the Eagles was to mix up the defenses and make someone else other than the Butler sisters and Natalie Leuzinger beat them, In the end that is what happened in the 86-41 Black Hawk win.
With the attention being paid to Bailey and Hannah Butler along with Leuzinger it was Maddy Huschitt who stepped up. All Huschitt did was lead the Lady Warriors in scoring with 23 points with her total including seven three pointers. She drilled three of them in the first half and four the second along with a two point basket for her total.
Another new face, Kaylee Marty, added 15 and Bailey Butler finished with 14. Barneveld's defense held Hannah Butler to seven points and Leuzinger to nine.
Black Hawk was more from three point land than Huschitt as they put in a dozen as a team. Six different players struck from behind the arc.
Thousand put freshman Elle Pechan in the line-up for her first high school start and she led the Eagles in scoring with 13 points. Leah Marx was also active on offense with 11 points.
"Elle did a good job in her first varsity start and Leah was very aggressive and got to the rim. She attacked and finished which was good to see."
"Black Hawk is a very good team and this year they are also deep," Thousand said. "They have some good role players who help. They are very solid and will be tough against everyone they play."
