Panthers move to 3-0 with win over Potosi/Cassville

Whatever is working for the Iowa-Grant girls basketball team and coach Dan Liddicoat to get them off to a 3-0 start to the 2019-20 season the Panthers hope it continues.
Win number three came last Tuesday when the Panthers got past a good Potosi/Cassville co-op 54-47. Logan Hubbard and Olivia Liddicoat accounted for 40 of those points as Hubbard put in 24 and Liddicoat 16. They were a combined 19 for 24 from the free throw line with Hubbard 12 for 14 and Liddicoat seven for 10.
"The girls got to the rim and got to the line," said coach Dan Liddicoat. "There were a lot of fouls in the game and a lot of free throws shot."
The Panthers trailed at halftime as Anna Kartman put in 11 points to send the P/C team to a 25-19 lead. But the Panthers were able to get some stops the second half which got them to the basket or to the line and got the lead.
"We were playing pretty well and when I looked up at the scoreboard we were ahead by seven," coach Liddicoat said. That was the margin the Panthers had at the end of the game.
Freshman Ashley Runde came off the bench and hit a big basket for the Panthers and Liddicoat buried a three pointer in the run. Annie Spurley also helped out the second half with four rebounds.
The Panthers faced a 1-3-1 zone defense that P/C extended to half court which was good for the Panthers.
"We will see that more this season," Liddicoat said. "We have Darlington next and that is one of their defenses."
"We did a lot of things good in this game but we had too many turnovers," Liddicoat said. "We will have to clean that up soon."
Kartman ended up with 16 points for the P/C team and Lily Post added 15.
The Panthers are at Darlington tonight.
