Best wishes to a new school year

By Kasi Greenwood-kgreenwood@thedodgevillechronicle.com

At this time next week, summer vacations will be over and it is back to school for many students. In fact this was Mineral Point's first week with the construction taking place.
A student's day will start earlier, by setting their alarms anywhere from 6 a.m. to 7 at the latest, and will scurry about getting ready for the day ahead. Backpacks will be packed the night before, and perhaps lunches too. For the parents of a preschooler. Congratulations! Yes it is a hectic time for both you and your child. With the summer ending, schedules are obviously changing and it will take a little time to adjust. But your child's education will be one of the best investments of your life. Their journey in education is just beginning.
And of course, there are the senior parents who may smile or shed some tears as this is their child's last "first day." I'm guessing that there may be some flashbacks that trigger their first day of school. And now seeing them in their last year, it has to be hard. But look at how much your child has accomplished: All the friends they've made, all the sports they've played and all the tests they've studied to earn that good grade (bear with me, I tried to rhyme).
To those teaching our students, I know there is so much to consider. Not only are you teaching students the curriculum, you are spending a lot of time learning too. Learning how a student thinks, speaks, or reacts to a situation. There are times that are going to be frustrating, but know that there are many that tip their hats to you.
To the students, enjoy those moments that make you smile and learn from the ones that don't. It is a bigger world outside of the classroom and the big test is using what you've learned in school to prepare you. Have faith in those that teach you, have faith in yourself, and have faith in the good and bad as you learn from both.
Good luck to the administrators, janitors, teachers, coaches, students and athletes, board members and more. It really takes a village to provide our youth a great education. May you all have a great school year.
