Pointers go 2x3 at Orangeville tourney


Mineral Point's softball team breezed to a pair of wins Friday and Saturday at the Orangeville Tournament, but lost to host Orangeville 10-5.
They shutout Lena Winslow 12-0 on Friday and then whipped Scales Mound 23-4 on Saturday after dropping the contest to Orangeville.
Friday's win was another no-hitter by the Pointers, but this time it came from Ivy Lawinger in five innings. She fanned three and walked three in the no-no.
The Pointers scored twice in the first, five times in the second, once in the fourth and four times in the fifth.
Jenna Wedig was 3x3 with four runs batted in, a double and she scored once.
Morgan James was 2x4 with a home run and a double with three runs batted in.
Lauren James also homered, drove in two runs and was 2x4.
Kaitlyn Kinch and Miranda Oellerich both went 2x2. Oellerich had a triple and Kinch a double.
Madeline Williams, Maggie Schubert, Dana Schmitz, Lawinger and Kyla Lindsey also had hits.
The Pointers out-hit Orangeville 9-8, but the host team jumped to a 2-0 lead. with a Tessa Janecke homer providing one tally.
The Pointers came back with four in the second as Morgan James singled one in with an error and groundout providing the others.
Orangeville put five on the board in the third with Emily George popping a three-run shot.
They added one in the fifth and two in the sixth with the Pointers only able to come up with one in the sixth.
Orangeville's Tori Plowman took the win striking out six and walking three.
Dana Schmitz took the loss going just two frames. She was relieved by Lauren James.
Morgan James was 2x4 as was Lauren James. Lawinger and Kyla Lindsey were both 2x3 with Wedig getting the other hit.
Janecke was 3x4 for Orangeville.
The Pointers polled 23 hits in the 23-4 win over Scales Mound.
They scored five times in the first and fourth, three times in second, twice in the third and eight times in the fifth.
Morgan James and Elle Chambers were both 3x4 while two hits came from each Madeline Williams, Lauren James, Payton Lawinger, Kyla Lindsey and Kaitlyn Kinch. Maggie Schubert and Ivy Lawinger both collected one safety.
Lauren James homered, Morgan James tripled while Chambers, Kinch and Morgan James each doubled.
Lawinger twirled a four hitter with five strikeouts, two walks and allowing four hits.
