"Fair Maps" resolution ready for vote

Dear Editor:
Wisconsin Fair Maps has been a topic since 2011. While the case against gerrymandering in the State of Wisconsin is subject of multiple court challenges, and still pending, Wisconsin Counties are uniting and setting forth their support for a nonpartisan procedure for redistricting plans.
Iowa County is now in that process to address fair maps and there are two groups that are leading the way. The groundwork of research and fact gathering was started by individuals from all parts of Iowa County led by Myra Enloe. Through this group's work the case for an Iowa County Resolution was summarized in March 2019.
With a contact of Supervisor Gollon, who directed the path, and a conversation with Supervisor Benish, who amended the agenda to allow the resolution to be presented, the General Government Committee for Iowa County passed the resolution unanimously on Thursday, April 4 and will be sending it to the Iowa County Board.
On April 16, 2019, the Iowa County Board will address the resolution to create a nonpartisan procedure for preparation of legislative and congressional redistricting plans. If you would like information on fair maps, research www.fairelectionsproject.org. If you wish to comment on fair maps, contact your county board representative, www.iowacounty.org, County Board Members.
Iowa County would be the 43rd county to pass this resolution. I want to thank the Iowa County Wisconsin Redistricting group's efforts preparing for this resolution and the Iowa County board members that expedited the resolution to the County Board. Please consider contacting your county board member to support fair maps.
