Dodgers top RC, win pair at Cuba City

Dodgeville's softball team rolled to a 10-1 win over Richland Center in SWC action Thursday and then won two games Saturday at the Cuba City tournament.
Dodger hurler Lindsey Murphy struck out eight Lady Hornets and walked just one while giving up a lone run on five hits.
Murphy went 2x3 on the day, with a triple, and scored three times.
Grace Borne had a double and was 2x4 with a pair of runs scored.
Korra Wasley, JoJo Heimerl, Audrey White, Katie Cushman, Danielle Mikrut and Olivia Argall also had hits in the 10-hit attack.
White and Mikrut had triples.
The Dodgers scored three times in the first, once in the second, twice in the fifth and four times in the seventh.
Dodger coach Gene Van Dyck said about the win, "Overall, it seemed to be a pretty well played and pitched game for both teams. It was a little chilly and there was a light rain in the last inning but not too bad. The biggest negative weather for us was that for the second game in a row there was a strong wind blowing in. This really negates our power and turns us into a small ball play which isn't our game in particular.
"Lindsey can be adversely affected by cold weather as she doesn't have large hands and a slick ball can give her problems. However, she seemed to handle it well with only 2 walks and 7 strikeouts while limiting Hornet hitters to only 5 hits - all singles. The Hornets' pitcher also handled the weather pretty well issuing only 2 base on balls. Richland Center came into the game with 2 wins and no losses looking for a third win but that wasn't to happen.
"JoJo Heimerl and Korra Wasley both made outstanding defensive plays to help keep Hornet hitters under control Grace Borne threw out their only would be base stealer. At the plate, I was pretty satisfied with our 10 hits which included 3 triples and 2 doubles.
"Our Varsity Reserve notched another 10+ run victory with a 16 -1 victory."
Saturday at Cuba City the Dodgers opened with a 6-2 win over Potosi.
They scored twice in the first, once in the fifth and put it away with three in the seventh.
Potosi scored twice in the fifth to make it a 3-2 game at that point.
Korra Wasley went 3x4 and scored twice while Danielle Mikrut was 2x4 with two runs batted in.
JoJo Heimerl doubled and scored the first run while Lindsey Murphy, Audrey White and Olivia Argall had the rest of their nine hits.
Murphy toed the rubber with eight punch outs, a walk and allowed three hits.
Van Dyck said about the game, "Potosi came into the game with some wins and their star pitchers back. She is one of the top regarded pitchers in this part of the state. While she kept us under control for the early part of the game, we got it going late in the game rolling to 6 - 2 victory on 9 hits with only 4 strikeouts.
"For the 3rd game in a row there was a strong wind blowing and that would be the same situation for the second game of the tournament. However, we were able to continually put the ball in play and keep the pressure on their defense. Between our 9 hits and their 2 errors we were able to score more than enough runs.
"Korra Wasley went 3x4 and scored 2 runs. Danny Mikrut continued to hit well going 2x4 while JoJo Heimerl contributed a double and scoring 2 runs. It's really nice when the top 2 hitters in our line up are scoring runs.
"Our defense again played well committing only 1 error. Lindsey had a solid game allowing only 1 earned run on 4 hits while walking only 1 and striking out 8.
"Our Varsity reserve won 14 to 4 over Platteville."
Cuba City scored the game's first run, but that was all they would get in a 6-1 Dodger win. That run came in on an error.
Dodger Lindsey Murphy would scatter the other three hits the Cubans would get in hurling a five hitter. She struck out five without a walk.
The Dodgers plated solo runs in the second, fourth and sixth with three coming in the third.
Korra Wasley and Grace Borne both were 2x4 with JoJo Heimerl, Murphy, Audrey White, Olivia Argall and Taylor Borne getting one hit each.
Heimerl and Grace Borne both hit two baggers.
Van Dyck said, "Cuba City came into the game with several wins including beating some pretty good teams and they pretty well pounded Potosi in their game. It did appear Potosi's pitcher was tired throwing her second game in a row but I think Cuba still was full of confidence. In our game they scored an unearned run in the first to take the initial lead and it could have been worse except that a ground rule double kept them from scoring a second run. After that, Lindsey and our defense shut the door on them. Lindsey struck out 6 while walking none and scattering 6 hits.
"On offense, we again collected 9 hits including 2 doubles while only striking out 4 times. While only 2 of our runs were earned, between our 9 hits and good base running, we forced Cuba into 4 errors. We did our best job of hitting throughout the line up that we had done in a while. It was a nice tournament win with victories over 2 pretty good teams.
"Our Varsity Reserve won 7 to 6 over Cuba City to continue their winning ways although this time they had to claw their way to a win scoring a run in the bottom of the 7th.
