Liberty and justice for "us"

Dear Editor;
I came to America as an immigrant child from war torn Europe in 1951.
In grade school, I believed fervently in the words we pledged everyday: "with liberty and justice for all." To me that meant it included me and my mom and my dad, no matter that we were just immigrants with Polish accents and funny sounding names.
Nowadays, after many years, we're kind of OK because we're white and kind of Christian-if fallen Polish Roman Catholics count as kind of Christian. But I wonder: would we be just as OK if we were from Africa or southeast Asia or if we were Muslim or whatever?
Unfortunately, sometimes I run into people who would just as soon the Pledge of Allegiance ended "with liberty and justice for us."
