D-P CC squads run at Mount Horeb


Dodgeville-Mineral Point boys ran well, but couldn't withstand the power of McFarland Saturday at the Viking Invitational Cross Country Meet held at the Norsk Golf Club in Mount Horeb.
McFarland turned in 26 team points with Dodge-Point posting 44.
The Spartans had the top two runners in seniors Andrew Pahnke (16:35) and Eli Kemma (17:030 with Dodge-Point junior Henry Keith third in 17:14.
Following Keith for Dodge-Point were: Jeremiah Beasley 7th in 18:08, Dylan McGraw 10th in 18:25, Will Aurit 11th in 18:29 and David Nagel 13th in 18:53.
Gabe Hart was 20th in 20:05 and Chandler Williams 23rd in 20:18 to round out the varsity finishes.
Other team scores were: Mount Horeb 52, Tri State Homeschool 129 and Reedsburg 137.
McFarland won the JV race with 25 points to Mount Horeb's 38 and Dodge-Point's 64.
Will Kramer led the DP team taking 8th in 20:27. He was followed by Cal Dampf 10th in 20:34, Nathan Grunow 13th in 20:40, Jacob Valeria 16th in 22:04 and Dylan Roen 17th in 22:11.
Grant James was 18th in 22:13 and Harrison Hellen 20th in 22:55 to round out the top seven.
The other DP finishes were: Tate Jewell 29th in 23:22 and Paul Angel 50th in 29:49.
DP girls 4th
Mount Horeb won the girls race with 63 points to runner-up McFarland's 67.
The next battle was for third where Prairie du Chien, who had the top two runners and number 6, nosed out Dodge-Point 80-82.
Then came Reedsburg at 95, Madison Edgewood with 122 and Tri State Homeschool at 194.
Senior Lindsay Johnston led Dodge-Point finishing 4th in 21:09. Chloe Oberhauser took 8th in 22:00 with Josie Jabs 16th in 22:33. Then came Avery Peterson 25th in 23:10 and Hannah Tremelling 29th in 23:31 to round out the point total.
Emily Cody took 32nd in 23:40 and Amanda Ludwig 35th in 24:09 as the final varsity runners.
Prairie du Chien sophomore Meg Katzung won in 20:32 with senior teammate Amber Huser next in 20:47. Mount Horeb sophomore Amanda Ollendick was 3rd in 21:01.
McFarland took the top four and sixth spots in the JV race to win with 16 points over Dodge-Point's 43.
Edgewood posted 91 with Mount Horeb at 103, Reedsburg with 119 and Prairie du Chien at 126.
Livia Winch paced Dodge-Point taking 5th in 24:30 with Haylee Kearns 7th in 24:32, Cassie McGraw 8th in 24:38, Sydney Judd 9th in 25:20, Brittany Thompson 14th in 25:50 and Brittany McGauley 37th in 34:26.
Dodge-Point coach Denny McGraw talked about the invitational saying:
"It was a small invite, but there were some very talented teams in attendance.
"Henry Keith was 3rd and DPCC top boy to finish. He continues to show that he is one of the top runners in the area. He is a great runner to watch and we look forward to seeing him improve each week.
"Jeremiah Beasley had his best race of the season so far. This is Jeremiah's first year out for high school cc and he is a strong asset for the team.
"Dylan McGraw is showing great senior leadership as he runs with determination and more confidence each week.
"Will Aurit received the "Fastest Freshmen" award at the invite. He is pushing himself to help the team in practice and races.
"David Nagel, the other senior on varsity, is stepping it up and we know he will keep working hard to improve each week.
"Gabe Hart ran his best race of his high school career, moving into a varsity position for one of the first times.
"Chandler Williams is another freshmen who has shown that he is a big asset to the varsity team.
"The JV boys were led by Will Kramer. Will has worked hard and is showing improvement.
"Lindsay Johnston continues to lead the DPCC girls. She finished 4th overall in the race and is a strong leader and example for the team.
"Chloe Oberhauser has stepped up her racing and is improving each week. She has worked hard and it is fun to see her gain confidence in her abilities.
"Josie Jabs is consistent in her racing, but at this week's meet you could tell she is starting to realize her capabilities.
"Avery Peterson is another strong senior runner who runs with guts and determination. She doesn't ever give up.
"Hannah Tremelling is starting to show what she is made of by stepping it up and running her best race of the season, so far."
The Dodge-Point teams go to the always tough Janesville Invitational Saturday.
