Dodgeville's volleyball team dropped a three set match to Richland Center Thursday night in SWC action.
They fought down to the wire in the first set before losing 25-22. Then they dropped consecutive games 25-14 and 25-17.
Saturday the Dodgers lost in the opening round of play to host Wisconsin Heights at the Heights tournament but finished third in the championship bracket.
After losing to eventual champion Heights 25-8, 25-16 in their opener they topped Potosi 25-21, 25-15 and then Iowa-Grant 25-14, 14-25, 15-10.
In those three matches Olivia Argall totaled 21 kills. JoJo Heimerl had six against IG and Kelsey Anderson four against Heights.
Grace Borne totaled 34 assists and Grace Higgins eight ace serves.
Argall and Borne both came up with five digs against Heights while Higgins had five against Potosi and Caitlyn Blume dug three against IG.
Anna Ruhland blocked three shots against IG while Anderson, Argall and Heimerl each had one against Potosi.
"We were never really in the Heights game, Dodger coach Scott Garthwaite. "We came out really flat and could not handle their excellent servers They have a nice team."
About the Potosi match he said, "We were very dominant in this one. Our hitters were more aggressive and we passed the ball very well. The only thing was we missed 12 serves, so the scores were closer than they should've been. It was nice to see us bounce back from our first match.
Against Iowa-Grant he said, "We played very well in the first one. We scrapped and picked up everything. We had a little let down in the second game, but bounced back in the third. It was a good win for us."
In the first championship match, the Dodgers lost to eventual runner-up Prairie du Chien winning the opener 25-22 but dropping the next two 25-15, 15-9.
"We cane out strong and aggressive. Our passes were excellent to give out setters and hitters some easy plays. Games two and three we started scrambling a little and making some errors. Overall we played with intensity and hustle throughout the day. We just need to learn how to close out games when there's pressure."
