Competing is there for Pointers

Mineral Point's volleyball team is loving the starts but the finishes....not so much.
The Pointers faced a pair of the SWAL's top teams this past week and came out just a bit short in both of them.
Monday they lost to a good Southwestern team 3-1. The Wildcats won the match 25-20, 25-23, 19-25 and 25-21.
"This was our second straight week of Monday/Tuesday matches," said Mineral Point coach Sam Riedel. "We had some serving errors that cost us and got a little tired towards the end."
Lauren James served three aces in the match and Kaitlyn Kinch came away with 16 digs, Nicole Johnson had eight kills, just behind kill leader Kyla Lindsey who had nine with three blocks. McKenna Reichling led in assists with 19.
Just 24 hours later the Pointers were back on the court and went five sets with Riverdale before losing. Scores were 22-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-20 and 16-14.
"We played very well and hustled the best we have all season," Riedel said. "Kayla and Nicole were amazing at the net with their kills and blocks."
Lindsey had 14 kills and five blocks while Johnson added 11 kills. Reichling dished up 19 assists and Kinch had seven digs. Johnson and Mara Aschliman both had a pair of aces for the Pointers.
