Undefeated Pointers continue to rule SWAL


Mineral Point continues to prove why it is ranked in the WBCA Division 3 polls as they swept a pair of SWAL opponents.
Mineral Point moved to 9-0 in SWAL play Tuesday with a 13-0 win over host Riverdale. Curtis Cox pitched 4 2/3 innings of 3 hit ball while walking none and striking out 9.
Isaac Lindsey pitched the rest of the way in relief, striking out one, walking none and giving up no hits.
Michael Schaefer was on the hill for Riverdale. He allowed three hits and two runs over two innings, striking out three and walking one. Justice Dilley, Ty Dilley, Tyler Hach, and Cody Sperry each took turns in relief.
The Mineral Point bats stayed hot as they pounded out 14 hits and are enjoying the consistency of producing throughout the line-up.
Liam Stumpf continues to swing a hot bat. He finished 3x4 with 3 runs scored, a double and 3 RBI's, his 23rd of the year.
Grady Gorgen, Cox and Lindsey all added a pair of hits. Joe Dolphin, Uriah Ottoway and Will Straka also contributed hits. Straka tripled and scored in the fourth.
The Pointers pushed one across in the second, 2 in the third, 1 in the fourth, 3 in the fifth and 6 in the sixth.
"We continue to see the ball well," Pointer coach Justin Tibbits said. " We made plays defensively and Curtis continues a very solid year on the mound for us. We are continuing to get better."
The Pointers entertain also undefeated Fennimore Friday with the possibility of the game beng moved to Thursday to avoid predicted rain. The Pointers are at Darlington Tuesday, at Fennimore Wednesday and host Cuba City Friday.
Last Friday the Pointers took a road win from Southwestern 5-1.
The Pointers got on the board in the first inning when Justin Baehler homered on a 1-1 count, driving in two runs.
Liam Stumpf got the mound win for Mineral Point Pointers as he allowed two hits and one run over seven innings. He struck out 11 and did not walk a batter.
Grant Jochum took the loss for Southwestern. He lasted six innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out four.
Baehler went 3x3 at the plate to lead Mineral Point in hits. He finished with a single, double and home run. Stumpf, Joe Dolphin and Lindsey added hits. Dolphin had a 2 RBI double in the fourth.
Southwestern didn't commit a single error in the field.
"This was a good win against the third place Wildcats," Tibbits said.
"Justin's home run got us going and Liam pitched outstanding. Will Straka continues to get on base for us."
