Pointers win three in one day on Tuesday


Mineral Point's softball team stayed in first place in the SWAL with three win Tuesday night.
The toppled Darlington 8-2 in the first game then finished a suspended contest with Riverdale with an 11-1 win and then took care of the Lady Chieftains again 11-0 in the finale - a game that was supposed to be played the next day, but rain was in the forecast.
Lauren James hurled the win against the Lady Redbirds.
She struck out nine and walked five while just allowing one hit and two unearned runs.
That one hit came from Chelsie Golackson and it plated both Gabby Steiner and Bethany McDonald in the fifth frame.
The Pointers scored four times in the third, once in the fourth and sixth and twice in the fifth.
Morgan James was 2x3 with two runs scored while Tessa Hanson, Lauren James, Dana Schmitz, Kyla Lindsey, Miranda Oellerich, Ivy Lawinger, Kaitlyn Kinch and Maddie williams each had one hit. That gave every Pointer in the lineup a safety.
Lauren James had a double and two runs batted in.
Morgan James and Oellerich both tripled.
In the suspended game against Riverdale the Pointers had held a 9-1 lead and closed it our with two in the top of the fifth and then holding the Lady Chieftains scoreless in their half.
Dana Schmitz had worked four frames striking out one and allowing three hits and one run.
Ivy Lawinger finished with a strikeout and allowing nothing more.
Lauren James was 3x3 with three runs scored and three RBI and a double.
Morgan James was 2x4, Dana Schmitz 2x4 and Kyla Lindsey was 2x4 with a triple.
Miranda Oellerich doubled, Tessa Hanson and Kaitlyn Kinch both had a single.
Ivy Lawinger went six innings in the 11-0 win. She fanned six, walked three and gave up three hits to Riverdale's Chloe Klebesadel.
Lauren James was 3x4, scored three times and drove in four runs. She homered and doubled.
Dana Schmitz was 3x3 with two doubles and two RBI while Kaitlyn Kinch doubled and drove in a pair.
Morgan James was 2x4 with a pair of doubles and Jenna Wedig was 2x3 and scored once.
Tessa Hanson, Kyla Lindsey and Alayna McCarville each had one hit.
