River Valley's girls softball team knew that when runners reached base in their battle with Sauk Prairie they had to find a way to move them.
So they did.
They also took advantage of what the Eagles gave them as they had eight reach base on walks and three from errors which helped as they only could muster up two hits.
It took eight innings for the Blackhawks to take a 3-2 win.
Taylor Eberle started the eighth inning off with a walk and Ali Hoffman sacrificed her to second. She moved to third on a ground out by Taylor Gruber and scored on a base hit by Ashley Koenig.
Now all that was left was for Eberle keep the Eagles scoreless in the bottom of the frame.
In the bottom of the inning, after a leadoff double and the runner advancing to third on a passed ball, the Blackhawks played stellar defense and Eberle forced three ground outs to end the game.
"It was a complete team effort," River Valley coach Jane Briehl said about the win. "The kids played so well together. I'm very proud of their efforts. We were only able had two hits, but we took advantage of eight walks and played excellent small ball. We were able to move runners by getting bunts down and taking advantage of three Sauk miscues."
