Survey to help with district's direction

By J. Patrick Reilly-preilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

A community will find its way into mailboxes in the Dodgeville School District soon. It is an important survey as it will help the board of education determine which direction to take to complete the needs at the high school. The high school--the second oldest building in the district--received much needed upgrades over the past year which has benefited both the student population and the community,
While some feel the district is getting top heavy with improvement at the high school it is the building where every student ends up prior to graduation. The needs at that school are still in the several million dollar range while the needs at the other schools are expected to be handled by budget outlay.
The document residents will receive will lay out the costs along with a sketch of what will made the high school a complete facility. What is proposed is an auditorium and a new gymnasium. Both have been noted as needs by many in the school district community.
Information is vital to those who will be making decisions and the first step starts with the residents of the district. Our charge to you is to get all the information you can and determine if what is needed makes sense to you.
Why now? Because the district will have a major note paid off next year and the board has done a good job holding down taxes. A minimal tax increase is all that is needed to make this project a reality.
Again, take the time to be informed. This might be the best time to do the needed upgrades but as always, that is up to you.
