Cuba City takes Pointers to the end


Mineral Point went 8x9 from the free throw line in overtime to slip by a stubborn Cuba City in a SWAL boys basketball final Thursday night.
The game was tied at 67 in regulation. They were keyed by 7 points in the extra period by sophomore Isaac Lindsey keyed the Pointer win.
Lindsey finished the night with 29 points to take game-high honors. The Pointers had four hit double figures with Chance Wendhausen hitting 19, Wes Berget 14 and Brayden Dailey 10.
Dailey had a dunk late in the game and hit a three in overtime.
Berget had 10 points in the first half, one the Pointers led 40-34. Lindsey put in three of his three pointers at the end of the first half.
Dailey put in a big three pointer in the overtime period.
Lindsey, who had seven points in overtime, was 4x4 from the line in the extra period with Berget and Garrett Wendhausen both going 2x2 with Chance Wendhausen making one of two. Wendhausen also had a huge steal late in regulation.
Wendhausen had a good night rebounding with 11 while Brayden Dailey and Berget both hauled down nine.
Chance Wendhausen also led in assists with eight and in steals with four while Brayden Dailey came up with four.
"It was a great test right before the tournament. I really like how our guys responded. It took a total team effort on our part," Pointer coach Dan Burreson said following the win.
He mentioned a few keys to the game saying, "We had a couple big threes early by Garrett Wendhausen and a big runner down the stretch by Mason Dailey. We had a solid effort by Wes Berget and some key minutes off of the bench by Eric Heisner and Liam Stumpf."
He was happy with their free throw production going 11/12 from the line.
"Most of those come in overtime," he mentioned.
"We had a great team effort on the boards," he added.
"Our scout team did a great job getting us ready all week for this game: Caden Jackson, Carver Wallace, Blaise Watters, Liam Stumpf, Dawson Wiegman, Kevin Eisenzimmer," he concluded.
Cuba City was leds by Blake Robson with 28 points, 16 coming in the first half.
Brady Olson hit 22 with 18 coming after the first half.
Jackson Noll added 10.
