Strong 2nd half boosts Pointers over I-G

It was Johnson and Johnson night for the Mineral Point girls basketball team Tuesday night in a SWAL win over Iowa-Grant 53-41.
Malorie Johnson hit a game-high 18 points while her sister, Nicole, popped in 10 to lead the offense. Malorie had 10 in the second half.
Tha prompted Iowa-Grant coach Dan Liddicoat to say, "The Johnson girls really hurt us with their size - both are 6' and our tallest isn't even close to that. Our zone frustrated them some too."
The game was tied at 22 at intermission.
"Being tied with them at halftime was big," Liddicoat said. "They are very talented and deep and we are definitely not deep."
"I was proud of the effort by the girls tonight," Liddicoat concluded.
Olivia Liddicoat had 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals while Kenzie Oakes came up with 3 assists and3 steals.
The Panthers totaled 15 team steals.
The Pointers had 10 girls score while I-G had five.
Olivia Liddicoat led them with 16 while Annie Spurley added 10.
Pointer coach Mitch Wainwright pointed out, "IG has improved from our first meeting. They were very aggressive and took the game at us."
"I thought we were flat after the Darlington game and we just couldn't get into a rhythm offensively," he added. "Our full-court man in the second half created more turnovers which lead to some quick baskets. Amanda Murphy played really well for us tonight, coming off the bench and scoring 7 points with a couple of steals and assists. Nicole Johnson also did a nice job adding 10 points and 7 rebounds."
