Dodger girls overcome PDC

Dodgeville's girls basketball team remained perfect in the SWC, but it didn't come easy against a stubborn Prairie du Chien team Friday night.
The Dodgers, trying to solve the Prairie defense, found themselves trailing 23-18 at halftime.
A bucket by both Ellie and JoJo Heimerl and two by Hannah Jones put them ahead at 26-23 to start the second frame. From then on, it was all Dodgeville in a 54-38 SWC win.
Jones popped in 19 of her game-high 28 in the second half.
Heimerl added 11 markers to the cause.
"I think we thought we were going to win this game before it started and we played that way in the first hal," said Dodger coach Josh Busch. "Prairie is a well coached team and play fundamentally sound. They made us look silly for the first 18 minutes."
"I was happy with our effort in the second half however," he added. "It was good to see us respond to the adversity we faced. It all starts with our defense that turns into our offense. We controlled the first five minutes of the second half. We played our offense and didn't play at their pace like we did in the first half. Our pressure caused several turnovers that we turned into buckets."
Prairie 6'2" junior Gabby Ritchie led them offensively with 18 points, but was limited to four in the second half by the Dodger defense. No other Lady Blackhawk had more than five points.
