Pointers top two teams at Platteville tournament

Mineral Point's girls basketball team won two games last week at the Platteville holiday Tournament.
They topped Mount Horeb 55-48 in game one and then edged Living Word Lutheran 69-67 in their second contest.
Seven Pointers scored in the first half against the Lady Vikings as they mounted a 34-13 lead by intermission.
McKenna Reichling and Mara Aschliman led the way with seven points each.
Kyla Lindsey led the nine Pointers who scored with 10 points, five in each half.
Mount Horeb was led offensively by Sydney King's 12 and Julie Magnuson's 11.
"We jumped out to an early lead using good half-court defense," said Pointer coach Mitch Wainwright. "The girl guarding the ball was responsible for starting the defense on Mt. Horeb's side of the floor which forced them to start their offense much farther away from the basket. We also had great balance in scoring with the starters scoring 30 points and the bench adding 28."
He added, "McKenna Reichling played a great game leading us in rebounds with 9 and assists with 7. She did an excellent job finding the open player and created several second-chance points. Kyla Lindsey came off the bench and was our leading scorer with 10, as she hit a couple of 3's which stretched Mt. Horeb's defense outside the lane."

Reichling sank a pair of free throws to put the Pointers up by four with 15 ticks left on the clock to help give them a 69-67 over Living Word Lutheran in the second game.
They jumped to a 7-3 lead, but LWL went on a 17-2 run. The Poionters fought back and took a halftime lead at 32-31, after trailing by as many as 14.
LWL again went up by 14 again in the second half, but a full-court man press proved to be their doom as time went on.
Malorie Johnson scored 6 of her 10 points in three out of four possesions in the second half.
Reichling ended up with 15 while Aschliman led with 20 points.
"Living Word Lutheran was a battle throughout the game," Wainwright said. "We jumped out to an early lead by attacking the basket and going inside, even though they were just as tall or bigger than we were. This created some foul trouble for them."
"After being down by 14 in the first half, we started playing better defense and got to the free throw line and clawed our way back to a 1 point lead at the half. Living Word started the second half with more intensity than we did and built up a nice lead again. We were down by as many as 14 again in the second half but started to make a run to get back into the game. Playing a full-court man press created some turnovers and allowed us to get some easy baskets in transition".
"Mara Aschliman lead us in scoring with and she played a big role in the second comeback, hitting a couple of 3's and making free throws. We iced the game from the free-throw line when McKenna Reichling hit 2 shots to put us up by 4. Kyla Lindsey and Dana Schmitz both hit some big 3's during the game which helped defeat their zone defense in the second half."
Living Word's Emma DeFour led all scorers with 22 points. Keri Walker added 14 and Kelly Wink hit 10.
