Panther girls earn consolation honors at NC

Iowa-Grant's girls basketball team had to play back to back games to earn the consolation championship of the North Crawford Tournament Friday.
The Panthers were paired with a tough River Ridge team in the quarterfinals and lost 48-33. They got the majority of their scoring from Olivia Liddicoat who poured in 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and rejected a pair of Timberwolves shots for blocks.
Katie Olson had a three pointer along with five rebounds and three steals. Annie Spurley added two points with three assists.
"Overall the girls played a strong game against a very good River Ridge team," said coach Dan Liddicoat. "We knew what to expect with a tough defense. The girls did much better and kept their turnovers low and played competitive basketball."

"With a loss to River Ridge we turned right around and played North Crawford, I was little concerned with our numbers and playing back to back that we would wear down," Liddicoat said. "Fortunately, that was not the case and our girls came out and played well. "
The Panthers had a pair of top scorers in the 67-55 win. Olivia Liddicoat put up 26 markers and Annie Spurley added 24. Liddicoat was especially effective from long range.
"I've been waiting for Annie Spurley to have a game like she did against North Crawford," Liddicoat said. "She puts in tremendous effort in practice."
He also felt the defensive effort by the Panthers was a key to the win.
"The team did a nice job playing man to man the whole second half, which is something we don't usually do," the coach said. "The girls also moved the ball well and kept turnovers to a minimum. Olivia had a nice day shooting from the perimeter putting in 5 threes."
Oliva Liddicoat led the rebounding with 13 points, dished out six assists and had four steals.
Maci Stevens had 4 assists and 3 steals and Katie Olson added 4 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals.
