Pointer girls pounce on Boscobel

Mineral Point's girls basketball team put on a defensive clinic in the first half in a 74-41 SWAL win against Boscobel Friday night.
Lady Bulldog Alyssa Davis kept her team in it as much as she could in the first half scoring 11 of her 12 points. Boscobel trailed 43-18 by intermission.
"We had another good defensive performance, using a full-court man to man press that created several turnovers," Pointer coach Mitch wainwright said. "Many times those turnovers lead directly to transition baskets."
Boscobel's talented Leah Wacker scored 23 points to lead them, but scored 18 of those in the second half.
Wainwright pointed out, "Dana Schmitz did an outstanding job on Boscobel's leading scorer all night and did not give her many clean looks at open shots. Leah Wacker hit some late 3's after Dana was done guarding her and the game was decided."
The Pointers had 11 girls score led by Malorie Johnson and Kaitlyn Kinch both with 13. Kyla Lindsey's 12.
"Kaitlyn and Kyla both shot the ball well from the 3 point line and we had great balance in scoring with 11 out of 12 girls contributing points. It was our Senior Night, so it was a good win for their last conference home game," said Wainwright.
He concluded reiterating, "Our team defense was excellent and hopefully, we can continue to build off of that as we head into tournament play."
The Pointers go to Cuba City Thursday night with the winner , coupled with a Darlington loss, gaining a share of the SWAL title.
