Dodger girls survive scare by Arrows

Sometimes you just say "a win's a win!"
That pretty much how Dodgeville girls basketball coach Josh Busch summed up his team's 48-40 win over Lancaster Friday night in a SWC battle Friday night.
The win kept the Lady Dodgers unbeaten in conference play at 8-0 facing a showdown at 7-1 Platteville this coming Friday night.
"We let them control the game," Busch said about the Lancaster stifling zone defense. "We were fortunate to out athlete them because they out basketballed us."
Lancaster held the lead early, but the Dodgers went on a little run just before halftime to go ahead 24-16 at the intermission.
They immediately went on a 10-0 run to start the second half and it looked as if they would keep on going.
But, the Lady Arrows had other ideas. They hit a few three pointerss, got some stops and kept chipping away.
Suddenly the 18-point lead was down to 7.
Dodger Hannah Jones hit some key buckets and free throws down the stretch and they led by 11 when the Arrows finished the scoring with a three as time was going to expire.
Jones finished the night with the lion's share of points the Dodgers had as she led all scorers with 30.
Olivia Argall added 11 with only two other Dodgers reaching the scoring column.
"Credit the girls," Busch added. "They stayed in it enough to let us keep in the game and move forward. We tried to force things too much and as a result we passed right into their hands."
Lancaster was led offensively by junior Lydia Murphy with 11 points while fellow junior Madison Straka and freshman Kiley Kelly both hit 10.
