Dodgeville senior post Bryce Prochaska hit 26 points with his 1000th coming midway into the second half, but that wasn't enough for his Dodgeville boys basketball team as they dropped a 73-67 SWC contest to River Valley Friday night.
The Dodger led 32-31 at halftime with Prochaska scoring just seven points.
River Valley found comfort from beyond the arc in period two when they hit 8 of their 12 three pointers.
Bailey Amble hit five from downtown in the second half, including three in a row and finished with 22 points, 17 of those after intermission.
Sammy Rosenberg nailed a trio of threes in the second and finished with 16 points.
It was Brett Nachreiner's 23 points that took team honors however. He had 12 in the first half.
"We knew their shooters," said Dodgeville coach Matt McGraw. "But Nachreiner, in the first half, hurt us from the high post so we went to a 1-3-1. They hurt us from the outside.
That's when Amble and Rosenberg started licking their chops from long range. River Valley was 8x12 from long range in period two.
"Their team executes very well," McGraw said."They are patient and make the extra pass to get good looks. When we do the same things go well for us - when we don't things don't go well. We rush too much."
McGraw said, "Congratulations to Bryce. He's one the hardest working players I have ever had. He's in the gym all the time. He not only scores, but he finds the open man too.
River Valley coach Luke Thatcher said, "We just played a 1-3-1 Tuesday night and we shot well from the outside. Bailey gets hot tonight and spread some energy to everyone else. Sammy had a nice night too. The threes sparked our confidence. We have to take our shots when we get them"
He added, "I thought Billy (Schluter) did a nice job defending Prochaska. He's an outstanding player and the 1000 is very deserving to him - Congratulations."
"I'm really happy with the way we come out and competed tonight," Thatcher said.
