Email brings back memories

Dear Editor:
Sunday afternoon I sent an email inquiry to a publishing company. And this is the response I received: "The Press Offices will be closed from December 17th to January 1st for the holidays. We will reopen on January 2nd. I will not be checking email regularly, but if your matter is truly urgent please reply with URGENT in the subject line. Have a wonderful holiday."
How remarkable, outstanding! He works for a company that truly, in my opinion, values its employees. And he's gone one step further, forgoing checking his email regularly.
On a similar note, my Father worked for over 40 years at Allis Chalmers. Each summer, that entire plant closed down for two weeks "forcing" all employees to take time off to renew themselves. Those were the days when companies really cared about their employees. And as he was in Personnel, I heard of many other examples as we talked about his day at the dinner table. If he hadn't completed his work, back he'd go.
He worked in the days before dress codes but chose to wear a suit (with two pairs of pants pressed shiny). And he was a "tie man" stating that it was the only color (shirts then were white) in a man's wardrobe.
