Dodger girls pressure way past River Valley
The Dodgers led 24-12 at halftime, but the Lady Blackhawks cut the lead to six in the second half.
That's when the Dodgers created four straight turnovers and hit a few three pointers then tacked on some bonus free throws for the 17-point win.
Dodger Olivia Argall led all scorers with 19 points. She had 12 in the first half. She also had five steals and five rebounds.
JoJo Heimerl added 15 and Amanda Ludwig a trio of threes, two coming at opportune times in period two.
Grace Borne led in assists with three.
River Valley's Tiena Gruber led her team with 12 points.
"Their pressure definitely got to us," said River Valley coach Brent Johnson. "We stopped them, but we couldn't score. They hit a few threes and their one and ones. But really it boiled down to us not able to handle their pressure."
Dodgeville coach Josh Busch popinted out, "I thought we responded very well coming off of the last game we played at New Glarus. We got off to a fast start and the girls were ready to play. Our defense helped set the pace of the game, something we have not been able to do consistently so it was great to see that."
He added, "Amanda and JoJo gave us a spark offensively in addition to Olivia and Grace, AJ (Phillips), Mara (Breuer), and Zoie (Weber) gave us some good minutes defensively as well."
"It's a step back in the right direction and we will continue to work at getting better," Busch said. "I am proud of this effort and the of these girls, all of them."
The Dodgers go to Reedsburg Thursday.
