Pointer girls ease past Panthers

The 67-42 score the Mineral Point girls basketball team used in defeating Iowa-Grant was not as significant at the 13-9 figure in players used.
The Pointers have a full bench which gives them the ability to keep fresh people on the floor and of the 13 who played, 10 reached the scoring column.
In contrast the Panthers used their entire nine person team and four scored.
"We kept it close for awhile but it got out of hand at the end," Iowa-Grant coach Dan Liddicoat said. "We handled their pressure fairly well but they wore us down and we committed some unforced errors."
"Coach Austin has a good team and he has them playing pretty well right now."
It also proves what depth will do for a team.
Austin's stats had the Panthers down for 25 turnovers caused by the Pointer defense. It didn't take them long to establish themselves and were lead by a trio of Pointers who had strong first halves.
"Mara Aschliman and Morgan James got us started right away and then Nicole Johnson got off to a good start by getting to the rim early," Austin said.
Aschliman nailed an early three pointer and finished the half with seven of her 10 points. James also had seven of her nine in the frame and Johnson got untracked for 11 of her 13. She also had six rebounds.
Freshman Ella Chambers got into double figures for the Pointers with 12.
Three Panthers hit double figures with sophomore Logan Hubbard tallying 19, Olivia Liddicoat 11 and Annie Spurley 10. Jackie Hawes put in a second half basket to complete the scoring for Iowa-Grant.
"Moving forward we have to make sure we stay positive," Liddicoat said. "That will be our goal."
