Panthers drop close one to Benton

Iowa-Grant coach Ryan Hill summed up the 74-62 Panther loss Monday night to Benton in two sentences.
"We didn't play bad," Hill said. "We just didn't play well enough."
It was a game of runs and free throws. The Panthers found themselves down early then made a move to pull within five at the half.
Benton took off again the second half before the Panthers put on a last ditch attempt to catch the Zephyrs.
"We pressured them and cut their lead to one before we gave up some easy baskets in transition," Hill said. "We had to foul and they made their free throws."
They made them so well, in fact, that Benton netted 12 of 13 the second half and 12 of 15 for the game.
Three point shooting also came into play in the game. Benton drained eight of them with 25 point leading scorer Nick Jensen hitting five.
The Panthers tried to keep up with nine three pointers but fell short.
Jansen and Brooks Tiedman both scored 14 points the second half. Tiedman ended the night with 18 after the Panthers held him to four in the first half. Wyatt Bastian also got into double figures with 17 points and a trio of three pointers.
The Panthers had four players reach double figures with Isaac Hill the leader with 15. Cobb Hubbard added 12 and both Michael Winders and Kruz Kitelinger got 11.
"We also gave up too many second chance points the second half," Hill added. "We didn't do a good job getting the defensive boards."
Hill was pleased with the scoring balance by the Panthers.
"Getting four in double figures is nice," he said.
