It is good to see good things happen to good people.
In one of the most touching ceremonies I have witnessed the UW-Platteville community turned out in a big way to help six year old Palmer Wilson in her fight against stage 3 cancer. The daughter of Megan Wilson, who was formerly Megan Hodgson from Barneveld, has been in the battle since June and still has a long way to go.
The UW-Platteville womens and mens basketball teams along with their opponents Loras and Central Iowa circled Bo Ryan court between games, put their arms around each other and bowed their heads as Father David Flanagan gave a prayer asking God to help Palmer and all children who are fighting the disease. Every player saluted the little girl as they left the court.
Later checks and were presented totaling over $10,000 to Megan and her family.
Adding to that, Megan is the womens basketball coach at UW-Platteville and is being assisted this year by Alexa Tovella and her former head coach Jim Myers who took on coaching duties when Megan took her daughter to treatments that will last over 40 weeks. Jim is helping because that is what friends do.
One thing I noticed last Saturday was that so many people care about those suffering and in need of extra support and love. That is what friends do.
It was wonderful to see that Palmer does not have to fight cancer alone.
