Dodgeville girls cagers started slow, but held a lead at halftime only to fall to host Richland Center 53-48 in SWC action.
"We got off to a slow start, but the girls did a great job of weathering the slow start and kept working to get us back in the game," said Dodger coach Josh Busch. "AJ (Phillips) hit a couple of jumpers that gave us a good lift and kind of got us going a bit."
He added about the first half, "We did a nice job in out full court pressure. We forced a lot of turnovers which is what we are trying to do. We were not always able to capitalize on them, but we are forcing them and that is great to see. "
In the second half, however, The Lady Hornets had nine points from Katie Schmitz (11 points) and eight from Jenna Thomas 18) and had a 28-21 advantage to get the win.
"In the second half we got off to a great start," Busch said. "I think we started on a 8-0 run, but we started to turn the ball over and settle for three point shots. RC has a good team, but I dont think we helped ourselves in the second half. We just could not convert on some opportunities we had, and we did not shoot the ball well at all. I think we shot 27% for the game."
The Dodgers were led in scoring by Grace Borne with 13 points. She hit eight in the first half.
Olivia Argall added 10 with seven coming in period two.
"I do think we are starting to figure things out and getting comfortable with each other," the Dodger coach said. "I am excited about where we can go as a team."
