Cardinals can't catch Miners

Highland's girls basketball team did all they could to compete with Shullsburg in their Six Rivers West match-up but it was too big a hill to climb.
Down 44-23 at halftime the Cardinals hammered away the last 18 minutes and even though they were only outscored by 10 they still lost to the Lady Miners 70-49.
"We played much better the second half," Highland coach Josh Tarrell said. "But it come down to us giving up way too many three pointers."
The Miners scored 24 points off three point shots and drilled six of them the first half as they pushed to their 21 point advantage.
Eight players scored for the Miners the first half led by Kayla Klotz who had 14 of her 16 in the frame.
Leyla Alt finished the job for Shullsburg with 12 of her 18 the second half and took game honors.
Anna Wiegel was the third Miner in double figures with 10.
The Cardinals had three in double figures also with freshman Meg Tarrell leading with 12. Maddie Drury and Katelyn Esser both had 10. Esser is also a freshman.
"Those three had good offensive nights," said Tarrell.
The Cardinals host Albany tonight.
"We are coming along," Tarrell said. "We just have to keep working."
