Barneveld girls downed by Monticello

When you have steals and play good pressure defense, you should have a good chance to win the game.
That's what the Barneveld girls basketball team was doing against visiting Monticello Friday night in Six Rivers East play. the only problem was that the ball just wasn't going in the hole for the Eagles.
They trailed 22-15 at the half, but at the 13:57 mark of the second half they went up 24-23 on a free throw by Lexi Marx.
A little over two minutes later they found themselves trailing 29-24 and it wasn't until about the 7:00 mark that they were to score their next bucket. At that time they trailed 39-26
That led to an eventual 43-30 l;oss to the Ponies.
"We're still looking for roles," said Barneveld coach Chris Thousand. "We played good pressure defense and got some steals. We just have to finish after getting gtose turnovers. our game plan was trying to be aggressive."
He credited Monticello by saying, "They played well - well enough to win. They are very well coached" - he said about their head coach Mark Gustafson.
Barneveld was led offensively by sophomore Leah Marks, who hit 11 points and was game high scorer.
The Ponies had two players hit double figures as senior Alyssen Noriega and sophomore Harley Disch both finished with 10 points. Mackie Errthum, another sophomore, added eight.
"it comes down to that we have to shoot better and we have to execute better," thousand said.
