Saturday morning, the breakfast guys - consisting of Bob Kratochwill, Terry Carroll, Dave Stone and myself - went to "The Break of Dawn" (formerly The Round Barn) in Spring Green for breakfast. When we arrived at about 8 a.m. the place was pretty well packed with only two tables for four empty, but not yet cleared. It didn't take long for the hostess to take care of that and sit us. Dawn, who the place is named after, wasn't our waitress, but her daughter, Claire Eno, was. We have to "grill" our waitstaff and find out as much as we can about them, so we did. Claire, who is a former River Valley gymnast and other sport's person, is attending Nebraska University in Veterinary/Animal Science with a Spanish minor, from where she plans to graduate in two years. She had just returned home from a month long abroad study in Spain the day before. She went right to waitress duties and was "lucky" to have us! At Nebraska, she really hasn't met up with Women's Basketball standout Hannah Whitish from Barneveld, but they have texted each other seeing each other while passing classes - but she plans to meet up with her this year. Their schedules don't really match up. Hannah, by the way, was Nebraska Offensive MVP last season.

Claire did a fine job as our waitress and the food was very good, as usual!

Terry spotted a kind of Dodgeville connection walking in the door and heading to another room to be seated. After finishing my meal I got up and headed to that other room to talk with Joni Herren (Graves) and she greeted me and then came to our table to greet the other guys. Joni was our Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director awhile ago. I believe she was also Main Street Director too. It was good catching up a little with her.

There were two other tables of Dodgeville people there, namely Pat Lindner and Ron "Mac" MacKinnon.

I took a pizza over to Ridgeway for classmate "Big John" Lucas Saturday evening. When I was leaving, heading out the west entrance by Blotz Court, there was a young deer running across the road in front of me. That was the first deer I had seen in awhile - I hope I don't see many more in the roadways!

Sunday I went to the Linden Frolic parade, but before that I was in Platteville at the "Marty Party". That was with cousin Jeanette and all her husband Jack's siblings and spouses plus their mother - Esther Marty, formerly of Darlington. They say I'm an "adopted" Marty!

The baseball season has officially ended for the Knights Home Talent team (tonight) and all of the Babe Ruth teams from this summer. I guess that means that football, cross country, volleyball and soccer will be taking over the local sports scene!

The above photo is from the Linden Frolic parade. Larry Schultz is a longtime Cubs fan and he shows it off here. He has been bring up the rear of the parade the past few years. I would say something about the Cubs and bringing up the rear, but I won't! He's with his wife, Jan.
