Along The Ad Routes

By Mike Reilly-mreilly@thedodgevillechronicle.com

Another cold weekend and into the first part of the week. I'll believe it when I see (and feel) it that temperatures may be in the 50's Wednesday and Thursday and may hit the 60's on Friday. But, then it's supposed to cool down again into the 40's over the weekend. But, it's supposed to get more seasonable into the mid to upper 50's toward the end of the month. But, I think it should be in the 60's to be more normal! It may not be the greatest temperatures for the farmers to do their field work, but it may have to do!

I have been in contact with the Dollar Tree. They are in the process of hiring now and plan to open May 10th. I don't expect any advertising to speak of from them because "they" say their "everything $1" doesn't allow them much margin to do such things - our loss as well as people who rely on the paper for advertising and finding new businesses (yes, some still do!).

The person I contacted about the Dollar Tree was Kurt Steffen, who said he spent a lot of time in Dodgeville when he was younger. I invited him to meet with me about his time in Dodgeville!

I've had people talking about going to the Friday night Grilled Cheese event on April 27, but so far not that many tickets have been sold. For $20 from 6-8:30 p.m. at the Dodger Bowl you can have a lot of fun. There will be at least 8 cheese makers displaying their products with FREE samples and cheese for sale. You get two FREE drinks with a ticket and a raffle ticket that guarantees you a prize. There will be some demonstrations and also polka accordion music. I hope to see some of you there!

It's prom time around the area. Barneveld's prom was last Saturday (7th) while Highland's is this Saturday (14th). Dodgeville, Mineral Point, River Valley and Pecatonica's will be the 21st. Iowa-Grant's and Argyle's will be May 5th.

Don't forget the Dodgeville Chamber of Commerce still needs volunteers for the Wisconsin Grilled Cheese Championships to be held at Harris Park Saturday, April 28. Stop at or call the chamber (935-9200) to do so. They need help setting up all day Thursday plus all day Saturday. Check out the chamber website at www.dodgeville.com Tickets are still available for $20 from any chamber board member or at the chamber office for the Friday night event too!
