Lauren James keys Pointer softball win


Lauren James drove in four runs and was the winning pitcher Monday as he Mineral Point softball team got by Fennimore 8-5 in SWAL play.
The Pointers scored first as Kaitlyn Kinch singled, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and trotted home on a Dana Schmitz single.
Solo home runs by Morgan James and Lauren James made it 3-0 in the second, but Fennimore took the lead with two runs in both the fourth and fifth.
Pointer Lauren James singled in Morgan James and then scored later on a Kyla Lindsey safety during a three-run sixth.
Ivy Lawinger singled to lead off the seventh, went to second on a sacrifice bunt, to third on a passed ball and scored as Lauren James coaxed a walk.
The Pointers had just six hits with Lauren James collecting two with one each from Dana Schmitz, Lindsey, Lawinger and Tessa Hanson.
Schmitz went 2/3 of an inning to start the game for the Pointers with Lauren James going the next 4 2/3 fo the win. Lawinger went the final 1 2/3.
Schmitz struck out both batters she faced while James fanned 12 and walked six, allowing five runes - four being earned - on three hits. Lawinger struck out one and gave up one hit.
Feretti worked the entire game on the mound for the Golden Eagles. She struck out 10 but walked eight and allowed six hits. She also was 2x3 at the plate.
