Cardinals split in two non-conference games


Highland's baseball team managed only one hit off Southwestern's mounds crew and lost 3-0 to the Wildcats in the non-conference opener for both teams,
Connor Rusch got the lone hit for the Cardinals. Mitchell Welsh reached base and recorded the lone steal.
Welsh, TJ Cool, Spencer Linscheid and Paden Kosharek all took a turn on the mound for the Cardinals. Linscheid fanned four, Cool three with Welsh and Paden Kosharek both striking out one.
The Cardinals had five errors in the game with only one of the runs by the Wildcats earned.
The pitchers for the Wildcats combined for 13 strikeouts and walked only one.
Monday was a different story for the Cardinals as they rolled past Cuba City 9-3.
Cool went 3x4 with two rbis, Welsh 2x5 with four rbis and Kosharek 2x4 and one rbi. Both of Welsh's hits were doubles.
Owyn Halverson and Ben Aide had a hit each for Highland,
Linscheid went four innings for the Cardinals and got the win. He fanned eight and walked seven while giving up one hit and two runs.
Kosharek worked two frames, walking two and giving up two hits and a run. Welsh pitched one scoreless inning with two strikeouts and two hits.
