it was only about 90 degrees outside - that may be why I was inside! We had
near record temperatures for last week with 90 degrees being the norm until
it dropped to 89 on Monday. We are supposed to be back to near(er) normal
temperatures towards the middle to end of this week. We sure can use some
rain though! Some people are saying it may SNOW before we get any more
rain.

A lomgtime Dodgeville person - Chuck Halverson - turned 93 last week.
He was a catttle buyer in the area and late wife Shirley was co-owner of Shirl-
Ann's dress shop in downtown Dodgeville. He is a Dodgeville High School
Athletic Hall of Fame member and has been a longtime UW Badgers supporter,
holding many Badger Booster events in our area - many at Dodge
Point Country Club. He will have a birthday party at the next home Badgers
game (September 30th) near Camp Randall Stadium. He will also be a part
of the Camp Randall 100th Year Celebration during the Iowa game on November
11. That's quite an honor!

This weekend should be fairly busy around the area with Homecoming celebrations.
Both Dodgeville and Mineral Point are celebrating theirs with a
parade on Thursday, game on Friday and dance on Saturday. Highland's parade,
game and dance are all on Saturday. Barneveld, who co-ops with Mount
Horeb in football, will hold its "Fair Day" on Saturday. That includes a parade
in theafternoon, along with a lot of activities, plus a dance that evening.

Sunday was the annual Oktoberfest at Highland where the best German
food around is served. There was a lot of activities for the youngsters, an
auction and a "heaviest" pumpkin contest. At the entrance were two youngsters
with "not so heavy" pumpkins - Natalie and Ben Haakenson (see above
photo). They were also watering and guarding the chickens that youngsters
liked to check out.

Pecatonica High School held its first Hall of Fame induction last week and
one very familiar name around Dodgeville was one of the inductees - Bob
McNeill. Bob, who founded Bob's Electric in Hollandale after graduating
high school there, has been a Dodgeville-ite for well over 60 years. His children
and many grandchildren have all graduated from Dodgeville High
School and he has quite a few great-grandchildren on that same path. Congratulations
"Old Bob" - as there are two more Bob McNeills around here
(same family)!
